Logistics Department
The logistics department at Natec plays a key role between purchasing and selling. It is responsible for aligning purchase and sales orders and handling logistics.
Purchasing is made in bulk based on sales forecasts, after which the products, which are subsequently on the way or in stock, are assigned to sales orders that have arrived in the meantime.
Linking purchase orders to sales orders plays a major role, as does tight planning and clear communication about transport between warehouses and customers. In doing so, Natec Sunergy has relied on a growing number of Excel files for years.
Data integrity
Several people worked in multiple excels who were supposed to jointly provide an overview of which orders were linked together and a workflow about logistical follow-up. The multiple excel files had the risk of losing data; purchasing orders were double-linked to different sales orders. In addition, the excel files had to be synchronized daily with the purchase and sales orders from business central.
Insight into the workflow
It was a laborious process to keep an overview of all outstanding tasks and where containers of products were in the workflow.
Communication
Every day, all logistics partners involved must be informed about planned transports with often changing details about the pick-up or delivery locations. This meant extracting a lot of data from Excel and combining it and then sharing it in emails. But also to keep an overview of what has been sent and what has not already been sent.
One workshop provided a clear understanding of the problems and mapped out the logistical process. An application was then developed, tested and rolled out on-site in 6 weeks.
This application is now at the heart of the operations at the logistics department.
It concerns an Inbound/outbound planning, tracking and dashboarding application
- Workflow centered
- Manage tasks for logistics planners
- Simplified and automated communication with carriers and warehouses
- Linking purchase and sales orders from business central
This solution enables Natec to focus on exceptions and to clearly carry out the standard workflows and communication with as few actions as possible.
