Boskalis - Transport Registration
Time saved in registering transport
Boskalis is a leading Dutch company that is an expert in the field of dredging and maritime services. For example, it is involved in land reclamation and the maintenance of waterways. During projects, excavated soil must be transported from A to B, including over land. Boskalis was looking for a solution to monitor the efficiency of this road transport.
One measure of efficiency is the net duration of a transport. This concerns the actual time required for transport, excluding any delays such as refueling or maintenance. To get an accurate picture of the net transport time, it is essential to keep track of the time and duration of these delays.
Much of the equipment used for transport is equipped with sensors that generate a continuous stream of information. However, this makes it difficult to accurately identify specific events. In addition, there is also a lot of equipment without sensors, which makes it even more complicated to register delays.
There was therefore a need for a solution that provides insight into the time and duration of delays, without burdening the driver unnecessarily.
A solution was built by 1 Quatronic developer in 6 weeks. This solution consists of a web-based portal application and a tablet application. In the portal application, the configuration is done prior to transport. For example, it is set which types of delays can be logged and which types of material are transported. The tablet application is used onboard to record the start and end of a transport, as well as any delays.
An additional challenge in this project was that the application had to be able to be used in areas without an internet connection. We have therefore provided offline functionality, where the tablet application automatically synchronizes information as soon as it has an internet connection again.
After the 6 weeks of development, a successful pilot was carried out and could then be put into use immediately.
