Wouter looks back on 6 years of Quatronic: a story about passion, teamwork and low-code technology.
In 2018, Frank Grooten, Richard van Osnabrugge, Rob van den Broek and Wouter van der Meij sat around the kitchen table. From a shared passion for low-code technology and a shared desire to do more than just advise, Quatronic was born. What started as a small team of four friends has grown into a respected company with over thirty employees. Despite the growth, Quatronic's core has remained the same: a strong focus on team spirit and collegiality and a unique company culture where professionalism goes hand in hand with a personal approach. In this blog, Wouter looks back on six years of Quatronic.
The best in our field
An important goal for us was to become the best in our field: number one in low-code development. The OutSystems EMEA Partner of the Year Award, which we two years in a row having won is proof for us that it worked out well. As an HR manager, it was also my ambition to put together a team of smart people who enjoy creating beautiful and impactful things together, challenging each other and who enjoy coming to the office. The employee satisfaction survey that we recently commissioned confirms that this has also been successful. 'The team' was the main reason why our people love working at Quatronic. I also saw this feeling confirmed during our recent ski trip in Gerlos with the whole team. After a few shots, I enthusiastically texted my girlfriend that this was my best winter sport ever, with a great group of people. If our customers also appreciate our work, that is of course the icing on the cake.
The success of our projects
When I look back at the projects we have realized, there are a number of them in the logistics sector that really stand out. We've successfully completed projects that our customers never expected to be able to complete on time and on budget. We did succeed, and that is something that does not often happen in IT projects. One specific project that is dear to me is that of CC Retail, which Natalie recently wrote about in her blog. As program manager, I was responsible for implementing a completely new IT landscape, and for me that was one of my most educational processes ever.
Nice group dynamics
My role is mainly about finding and keeping good people. One employee left in 2023, but in general, everyone is satisfied and feels at home. On Fridays, when we have lunch together in the office, you really feel that group dynamic, just the way I envisioned it. What matters to me is the balance between hard work and time to relax. We work very hard to achieve great results and satisfy customers, but there is also time to relax together, and that is appreciated by the employees.
Serious when necessary, funny when possible
Last year, when it was my birthday, the team gave me a gong. Now I get to sound the gong at four o'clock every Friday. That's how the team sees me and what I recognize myself: serious when necessary, funny when possible. This was also confirmed in the employee satisfaction survey: colleagues indicated that they can share everything with me and that I am someone who wants to keep everyone happy. Although that is sometimes quite difficult and does not always work out, it is something I strive for and what the employees apparently see and appreciate.
Growth ambitions
We have considerable growth ambitions. How great would it be if we could fill the après-ski tent with our team next year. With a larger group, we can take on even more challenges, achieve even more and focus on even more complex projects. The most important thing I think is that we maintain our unique company culture. I want colleagues to keep finding each other and to do things together, even outside of work, as we do now. Right now, the company really belongs to everyone; everyone knows each other. We definitely want to maintain that atmosphere. That can be a challenge as we grow, but we will surely find our way around it. At the moment, our focus is on growing and taking on great challenges.
Reflection on personal and professional growth
Over the past six years, we have grown not only as a company, but also as entrepreneurs and business partners. All four of us have become fathers and that also changes you as a person. This personal growth, both business and private, has brought us even closer together. We know what we have in common and when we need each other. This strong team spirit is one of the main reasons why the company is doing well and why we can continue to grow healthily.
